Using the IDEAScript Objects Workshop

This hands-on workshop (2 half days) is for auditors and analysts who use IDEA daily and have basic IDEAScript experience but have not yet worked with IDEA’s object model. Using IDEA 14 and its sample databases, participants learn to open and manage databases through the Client object, read TableDef and Field properties, run extractions, summarizations and joins in code, read records with RecordSet, and add basic error handling.  Afterward, they can build scripts that run analyses consistently and repeatably, producing results that are easier to document, review and rerun in audit and compliance work.

Learning Objectives

The participant will be able to:

• Navigate the IDEA object hierarchy from the Client object to open a database and report its table and field properties.
• Construct IDEAScript code that performs extractions, summarizations and joins without using the IDEA menus.
• Apply RecordSet methods to read records and update editable fields, then test and troubleshoot scripts to confirm they return correct results.
