Bundle: 2026 IDEA Workshops

Build your Caseware IDEA skills through four live, hands-on workshops in 2027 with Brian Element. This bundle includes 20 hours of  focused training on writing expressions, creating custom functions, working with IDEAScript objects, and using regular expressions to analyze text.

Designed for auditors and analysts who already use IDEA, these workshops explore ways to clean data, identify exceptions, reuse analytical logic, and make recurring analyses more consistent and repeatable.

IDEA Equation Editor Workshop
January 13, 2027 | 9AM – 1PM Eastern US | 4 hours

Move beyond basic extractions and build more precise expressions in IDEA’s Equation Editor. Combine logical operators, nested @If statements, and text, date, and numeric @functions to isolate records. Create virtual and editable fields to derive values, clean inconsistent data, and flag exceptions, then troubleshoot expressions to confirm they produce the intended results.

IDEA Custom Function Editor Workshop
April 14, 2027 | 9AM – 1PM Eastern US | 4 hours

Extend your analyses with custom functions for logic that built-in @functions cannot handle. Learn to create reusable functions for multi-step conditions, text parsing, and calculations, and apply them in virtual fields and extraction criteria. Practice testing and debugging your functions against sample data.

Participants should be comfortable using the Equation Editor. Basic programming knowledge is helpful but not required.

Using the IDEAScript Objects Workshop
July 13–14, 2027 | 9AM – 1PM  Eastern US each day | 8 hours total

Explore IDEA’s object model and learn to control analyses through IDEAScript. Using IDEA 14 and its sample databases, open and manage databases, inspect table and field properties, and perform extractions, summarizations, and joins in code. Work with RecordSet to read records and update editable fields, and add basic error handling to make scripts easier to troubleshoot and rerun.

Participants should have basic IDEAScript experience.

IDEA @RegExpr Workshop
October 13, 2027 | 9AM – 1PM Eastern US | 4 hours

Use regular expressions to find, extract, and validate text such as postal codes, phone numbers, email addresses, and invoice numbers. Build patterns using character classes, quantifiers, anchors, and groups, then apply @RegExpr in virtual fields and criteria. Test and refine your patterns to reduce false matches and missed records while checking data quality and identifying exceptions.

Participants should be comfortable using the Equation Editor. Prior regular expression experience is not needed.

Attend live and revisit the training afterward

All workshops will be delivered live online and recorded, with recordings made available afterward for later review. Participants will need access to IDEA to complete the hands-on exercises.

CPE credit will be offered. Credit amounts can be found on the specific workshop.
