This is an archived session with Alain Rousseau – Director, Sepia Solutions – from the Auditopia 2026 Arbutus Conference.
Have you ever tried to create an additional field (column) to calculate a running total of your transactions? You won’t find a menu option or a command for that in Arbutus. Yet, I will show you how to achieve this in just 6 simple lines of code.
The Arbutus GROUP command is one of the commands only available through procedures (scripts/batch files). It is therefore more technical (coding / programming), but it is also extremely powerful and useful as you can perform many actions for each data record, including using data from other records.
In this session, we will discuss multiples uses cases and practical examples for the GROUP command. While we also explore the RecOffset() function and how it compares to using the GROUP command.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify use-cases where the GROUP command can (or must be) used.
- Explain the difference between the RecOffset() function and the GROUP command.
- Create their own procedure to calculate (or verify) a running total.
