Diving Deeper Into the Equation Editor (1.6 CPE)

$50.00

This is an archived session with Brian Element – IDEA Expert & Consultant from the Auditopia 2026 IDEA Conference.

The Equation Editor is the backbone of IDEA.  The Equation Editor can be used in most tasks, can be used to create filters, extract information and used to create virtual fields.  This session will walk you through the use of the equation editor, the common and uncommon features of the editor and how to create your own custom functions using IDEAScript.”

Participants will learn to:

    • Navigate and Apply the Equation Editor Across Core IDEA Tasks — including extractions, filters, and field manipulation — constructing both simple and complex equations using IDEA’s library of over 100 built-in @Functions to perform exception testing, data validation, and calculations across their datasets.
    • Leverage Advanced and Lesser-Known Equation Editor Features — such as using regular expressions via the @RegExpr function to validate field formats and extract records matching specific patterns — and utilize virtual calculated fields based on equations to derive new insights directly within a database, going beyond everyday usage to unlock the editor’s full analytical power.
    • Build and Deploy Custom Functions Using IDEAScript — create their own custom equation functions and use them in the Equation Editor just like built-in @Functions, and share them with their team, using IDEAScript to extend IDEA’s capabilities and automate repetitive analytical tasks for greater efficiency.
